Plan your journey
Most guests are flying in from the US and India and arriving on Thursday, May 13. Here’s how to get to us, and what to know before you land.

Flying in
Fly into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Penha Longa is about 22 miles (36 km) from the airport, roughly 30–40 minutes by car depending on traffic.
When to arrive
Most guests are arriving on Thursday, May 13. Check-in at the resort is from 3 PM, and there’s no formal event that day, so arrive at your own pace.
Arriving on Friday instead? That’s completely fine. The Haldi is a relaxed daytime gathering, so don’t worry if you miss it. Just aim to arrive in time to settle in and change for the Sangeet that evening.
Getting to the resort
Penha Longa sits in the hills between Sintra and Cascais, not in Sintra town itself, so a car is the easiest way to get there.
- Taxi or ride-hailing: taxis wait outside arrivals, and Uber and Bolt both operate in Lisbon.
- Rental car: handy if you’re exploring afterwards. Parking at the resort is free for hotel guests, with self-parking and valet.
Good to know
- Time zone: in May, Portugal is on UTC+1, which is 5 hours ahead of New York and 4½ hours behind India.
- Money: Portugal uses the euro (€). Cards are widely accepted; carry a little cash for small cafés and taxis. Tipping isn’t expected, but rounding up or leaving 5–10% for good service is appreciated.
- Plugs: Type F (two round pins), 230 volts. US guests need an adapter, and should check devices work on 230V. Indian two-pin plugs fit; three-pin plugs need an adapter.
- Weather: mid‑May is mild, around 55–72 °F (13–22 °C). Sintra’s hills are often misty and cooler than Lisbon, so bring a layer for the evenings.
- Language: Portuguese. English is widely spoken at the resort and in tourist areas.
